Hannah Jadagu – Aperture

Record debut on Sub Pop Records for Hannah Jadagu and her beautifully crafted pop. The album is not titled ‘Aperture’ by chance, as there are many influences in her music. The lowest common denominator is pop combined with indie rock and a few sprinklings of r’n’b, and the result is very catchy and very enjoyable. Hannah’s beautiful voice stands out above it all, becoming to all intents and purposes an instrument that plays on a par with the others in the group.

The songs are very well structured, almost always crescendoing, with a very good chorus that can be enjoyed both on the radio and in alternative circuits. Compared to the debut ep released exclusively in the digital edition ‘What is goin’ on?’, different choices have been made with regard to the music, which in ‘Aperture’ has been lightened a lot with many reverberations, and the vocals are rendered in a more crystalline and more foregrounded manner.

These choices have definitely paid off and the result is in our ears, and it is remarkable. Hannah Jadagu represents the future of pop, putting into music the mixing of different cultures, both musical and otherwise. In “Aperture” we find the modern version of pop, since pop has many different lives and versions, here we find its reincarnation closer to the lighter and more modern indie world, using elements even with distorted guitars but all in harmony with its pop soul.

Hannah’s voice is very distinctive, she can use many different registers and always finds the right key with which to interpret the song, and all the music is tailor-made for her, and both the composition and the production are very well thought out and constructed to perfection.

To listen to the album is to plunge into warm, gentle waters, where there is conflict but there is always hope and understanding of the other, in an elegant and stylish context.

A very positive long-distance debut, the future of pop is certainly in these surroundings.
