Fourth album for the Norwegians SuperLynx, their first on Argonauta Records, entitled ‘4 10’, as they are on their tenth anniversary.
The band had accustomed their listeners to a very high quality of their sound and right from the opening and beautiful ‘Into the sun’ they go even further.
Superlynx’s sound is rough but at the same time melodic and highly psychedelic, with a very strong jam component that adds much to their always ethereal compositions. One of the band’s strengths and points of interest is the beautiful psalmodic voice of Pia Isaksen, who also plays bass and whom we have already met in her solo project Pia Isa with the beautiful ‘Distorted chants’.
The album is a psychedelic ritual enriched by a stoner doom that is uniquely theirs, with these very particular guitar runs that form with the rhythm section something very recognisable from the first listen, with something of the purest drone and improvisation. “4 10′ is a very meditative and introspective record, opening up worlds within us, with a timbre that is very ancient in its essence, and each track is a story in itself, with a life of its own and a breath of its own.
Precisely the theme of breath is very important here, because the breath of breath is at the basis of dreaming as of the construction of another dimension that has nothing to do with the one we believe to be true and real. The sounds are fantastic, the production is very good and perfectly renders the evidence of a band with a marvellous sound mix.
Note after note, step after step, word after word, the clouds pass, the night comes and the sound continues.
