Vinyl and digital reissue by Munster Records of a small masterpiece of extreme and experimental electronic music, New Zealand’s “Mix zelanea” solo album, originally released in 1986 for Ani Zinc’s Auxilio de Cientos label who together with Javier G. Marìn formed Diseño Corbusier, one of the most experimental groups ever heard in the Iberian peninsula and beyond.
Born in 1981, Diseño Corbusier made synthetic and very acidic electronics, in full harmony with the more experimental European scene, which in the first half of the eighties was very remarkable. Compared to Diseño Corbusier, this album is even more extreme and blunt than the group’s production.
Here Ani Zinc fully expresses her immense vein of sound explorer, playing on anxiety and on the sound and therefore psychic disorientation of the listener who is quartered by dry and powerful sounds, cries in unknown languages, atavistic maternal calls and echoes of voices possessed as in the crazy “The fanatic” real extreme and cursed sound performance.
There is no peace, or approach to something marketable and expendable in any radio, if not in that of the apocalypse. The disc is pervaded by a unique sound power, a unique stylistic figure, a crazy genius that flows into something that is not common music at all but are sound waves that come directly from Ani Zinc. “The drama” is a piece recited in Italian about some unspecified massacre, a piece where you seem to see blood flowing in rivers, a crazy personality.
There are so many things on this record that it is more a collection of moments, a unicum formed by loose pieces collected by Ani Zinc and her total and all-encompassing musical vision as there have been few, and that we will still struggle to hear anything similar because it is something that could only happen in those years and in those situations. “Si esto es amor” is an absolutely unrepeatable polyvocal song in which the Spanish singing tradition is boned, bringing it to another dimension and unknown to most, perhaps even to the author herself who is almost a medium.
Radicality, other beauty, spirit, flesh, beauty and abyss, but above all a unique and incredible musical parable. Very good reissue of an album that cannot be found and almost forgotten in the folds of history but which still has incredible strength.
