An excellent debut, with a lot of adrnealin and travelling elements.
The first long-distance record for Swiss duo Kahfa, born in 2020, is entitled ‘La poison et la reine‘, and is released by Argonauta Records. The duo’s self-described fuzz, guitar, drum kit and vocals draw very bold, sinuous and interesting musical trajectories. The duo consists of Claudio Peragine and Théo Burri, and they are a very effective duo. Their sound starts with fuzz as they say, to become something else, always changing shape with a certain abrasiveness that is part of their musical equipment.
The pacing of their sound goes very well with the singing in French, which has a cadence that marks the caesuras with the guitar in a very interesting way. This debut, which follows an ep, is a record that explores various facets of heavy psychedelia, drawing sonic territories that are all to be explored. The instrumental pieces such as the opening ‘Alva’ are also very good, showing that the instrumental could also be a future option.
Always wonderful then are pieces like “Ego trip” a beautiful thing that starts almost from nu metal, to move to noise, to get closer to the more distorted White Stripers and then gush in an almost hardcore piece, a real gem that shows how this band does the best possible thing in music, which is to play what they want without calculation, riding the flow of sound, and this is a great sound flow.
“Combat des chiens” is another beautiful piece, which speaks of the folklore of the Swiss region of Jura where the duo lives, and Switzerland has a composite and very interesting folklore, which can amaze. Kahfa are very innovative, even though they come from many different listenings, both of French and Swiss bands, underlining the fact that Switzerland, as Kahfa themselves show, has a very good scene, very alive and kicking. An excellent debut, with a lot of adrnealin and travelling elements.
