Ramon uses many elements to make his music very original and personal, and he succeeds very well, for a record that is of an electronic nature that goes beyond mere entertainment to place itself on a higher plane of sound.
Third album for Los Angeles-based producer Ramon Pang, founder and director of the Tabula Rasa label, for which he released ‘Life cycle waves’, a superior electronic record. Ramon has worked with big names such as Skrillex and Four Tet, to name a few. In his latest work, Ramon has focused more on intimate electronics, more closely linked to dance and body frequencies. The tracks on the disc develop very organically and are interconnected, in a continuum that unites different aspects of electronics.
The backbone of the record is the drums, the real beating heart of the record. They are joined by keyboards and wide-ranging synthesisers, a mixture of Aphex Twin, Autechre and Four Tet but in a very original and beautifully calibrated way, all very natural and pleasant.
The electronics of ‘Life cycle waves’ are, as the title says, circular and vital, starting from our bodies to radiate into our surroundings and vice versa, in a continuous self-regenerating exchange.
The tracks are fascinating and cover many sub-genres of electronic music, from ambient to breakbeat to drum and bass, passing through the most melodic techno and something remotely house, and are striking in their beauty and fluidity, at times one has the sensation of being immersed in a sweet liquid and observing everything around us from there, in a suspension that is both participatory and linked to the whole.
